| About the Author
I have always loved to write. After earning a Bachelor of Arts
degree in English, I began exploring some outlets for my writing. I
had no idea then of the exciting plans the Lord had for me.
When I attended my first writers’ conference, I discovered the
many markets open to free lance. My passion for writing grew, and I began
submitting my work to publishers. Through the years I have sold numerous
devotionals, articles, stories, and poems to a variety of Christian magazines.
At the same time I have worked full time for the government and have
honed my skills doing technical writing and editing.
Ten years ago the Lord opened up a new area of ministry for me.
I hosted a writers’ conference at my church and invited in
a guest speaker. A few months later I started a writers’ group.
My goal was to share with others what I have learned and help them
get started in a Christian writing ministry. Six years ago, I began
a second writers’ group at my workplace. Both groups meet
monthly, and many of my students have had their work published in
Christian magazines.
In 2004, I began The Fruitful Pen ministry which is designed to provide
helpful resources for Christian writers. “How to Write Daily Devotionals” is
the first in a series of workbooks I plan to write. It is based on a
course in devotional writing that I developed and have taught to several
groups. Future workbooks will be based on lessons I have developed for
my writers’ groups.
I consider writing to be a great joy as well as a responsibility. In
the parable of the talents (Matt. 25:14-30), Jesus exhorted us to use
our gifts for Him. Let’s be good stewards of our time and talents
and answer God’s call to write for His glory!
